Audrey SPENCER
Friday May 08, 2015

SPENCER, Audrey J. (nee Shipley) 1920 - 2015 – with profound heartache the family grieves the loss of their mother and grandmother at the Norview Lodge, Simcoe on Friday, May 8th, 2015 in her 95th year.  Predeceased by her beloved husband Robert “Bob” (1989) and brother Henry (2009).  She is survived by her children & grandchildren Anita Meinen (Jack) of Port Dover, their daughter Tiffany Parnanzone (Reno);  Richard (Lorraine) of Michigan, their children Jacob (Trisha), Victoria (Joe) & Alison;  Stephen (Cathy) of Calgary, their children MacKenzie & Noel.  Cherished great grandmother of Andrew.  Lovingly remembered by her sister Kathleen Lamb (Alan) and by a brother George Shipley as well as by several nieces, nephews & extended family.  A Yorkshire lass from a line of farming families, Audrey was the first of her family to cross the ocean in peace time when, as a new bride, she left England and joined her husband in the jungles of Ecuador.  She crossed the Atlantic several times over the years as she and Bob moved back to England, emigrated to Canada, returned to England again and 2 years later when they and their growing family settled finally in Canada.  Perhaps this fostered her love of cruising holidays in later years.  Moving from Downsview to Oakville, to Montreal, to Brampton, and Tillsonburg;  she ended her life’s journey in Simcoe.  A winter vacation home in Florida brought great joy to both Audrey and Bob and all the family and friends who came to visit over the years.  No one was prouder of her family than Audrey, and she loved each equally and unconditionally.  She welcomed the opportunity to entertain for which she acquired a vast accumulation of recipes, but generally fell back on the old favorites.  Until recent years, she could not sit idle.  Her life long talent in sewing, smocking, knitting, quilting, and crafting resulted in many gifts for her family and enabled her to fill the empty hours after Bob’s passing.  She leaves behind dear friends in England, Brampton, Tillsonburg and Simcoe, but as those who know her will agree, she had a good life with no regrets and is ready to be with her beloved Bob, who she has missed for too long.  It is with the knowledge that she would be with him again that she was patiently able to bide her time and that now gives comfort to her family.  Friends are invited to share their memories of Audrey with her family at the JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. North  Simcoe for visitation on Monday, June 1st, 2015 from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m.  A memorial service will follow in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jeff Smith officiating.  Private interment of ashes:  Meadowvale Cemetery at a later date.  Those wishing to donate in memory of Audrey are asked to consider Cystic Fibrosis, World Vision, the MS Society or Cancer Research.  Personal online condolences at www.smithfuneralchapel.com (519) 426-0199
