Doug Sr. DEMEYERE

DEMEYERE, Douglas Theopheil Daniel - passed away at the Cedarwood Village Nursing Home, Simcoe on Friday, April 24th, 2015 in his 88th year.  Beloved husband of 69 years to Helen Demeyere (nee Pangborn) of Simcoe.  Loving & dedicated father of Linda Hunsinger (Ray), Patricia Chambers (Larry) and Douglas Demeyere (Starr).  Cherished grandfather & great grandfather of Vicki Maxwell, Larry Chambers (Sherry), children Colton & Elisha;  Robert Chambers (Cindy), children Jonah & Georgia;  Derek Demeyere (Alisha), children Abbey & Tyler;  and Kristy Chong (Michael), children Hayden & Spencer.  Doug will be lovingly remembered by his brother Fred Demeyere (Lu), by his sister-in-law Pam Peters and by Helen’s family; brothers-in-law Herb Pangborn (late Madge) and Gord Pangborn (Isabel).  Doug will be sadly missed by several nieces, nephews & extended family.  Predeceased by his parents, the late Achiel & Delsie Demeyere, his brother Rodger Demeyere and by Helen’s parents G.H. & Amy Pangborn.  Doug was a true and honest hardworking salesman driven to provide for his family. He appreciated and respected his many dedicated staff and enjoyed serving his customers over the decades. Even after retirement he would stop by the dealership to chat, especially on Saturdays, bringing donuts.  Truth be known, he just wanted to see how business was going.  It was his pleasure to mentor his son Doug, and grandsons Derek Demeyere & Larry Chambers.  He was especially proud of his three generational legacy with Chrysler Canada and the move to the Queensway East location.  Doug was a generous supporter of minor sports , arts, culture, the Norfolk General Hospital and many Norfolk County community events.  His career started by working on his parents tobacco farm.  He then started delivering bread, at first under horse power, then by truck;  growing tobacco and then he began his long career selling vehicles for Wilson Motors.  In 1957, Lloyd Brown & Doug started Brown/Demeyere Motors.  In 1968, Doug became sole owner of Demeyere Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ltd.  He volunteered as President of Simcoe & District Minor Hockey, the Rotary Club of Simcoe, and was a Director with the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA), a member of the Norfolk Golf & Country Club and St. James United Church.  He enjoyed his many friends and family over the years, travelling and golfing locally at the Norfolk Golf & Country Club and to Winter Haven, Florida.  For many years he cottaged in Turkey Point, enjoying boating, fishing and snowmobiling.  In later years, Cedarwood Village Residential & Long Term Care became their home, providing wonderful compassionate care.  Helen and family wish to thank the many wonderful, caring staff & nurses, especially the 2nd floor where they spoiled Doug.  Special thanks to family physicians, Dr. Bill Wynveen, Dr. Peter Wong & their staff.  All funeral services will remain private.  The JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. N.
