Veronica KANYO
Thursday December 10, 2009

KANYO, Veronica Barbara (nee Engelhardt) – of Simcoe, passed away peacefully at the Norfolk General Hospital on Thursday, December 10th, 2009 in her 85th year. Born in Almas-Kamaras, Hungary on April 14th, 1925. Beloved wife of the late Steve Kanyo (2002). Dedicated and caring mother of Mona Sheedy (Vince), Irene Townsend (Ernie) and Ron Kanyo (Cindy). Omi will always be remembered by her grandchildren Tailona (Mike), Jenna, Hayley, Julie and her great granddaughter Loni. Lovingly remembered by her sister Theresa Schafer (Joe) and by Liz Drotos. Predeceased by her brother Joseph Engelhardt. Veronica immigrated to Canada as a refugee in 1949, along with her family, settling in the Delhi area. Here, Veronica met her husband Steve in Courtland, was married and together they worked hard at any job they could find. With their hard earned savings they purchased land outside Renton and slowly built their chicken ranch. Here Veronica raised her family with work ethics being the foundation of the success of her life. She maintained an impeccable home and spent her life taking care of her family. Veronica’s life revolved around her husband, children and grandchildren. We are thankful for the simplicities of life that she taught us. Veronica will be forever loved and missed by her family and those that had the pleasure of her hospitality at the dinner table. Friends are invited to share their memories of Veronica with her family at the JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. North Simcoe for visitation on Monday evening, December 14th, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. A private family funeral service will be held on Tuesday with Mr. Ernie Townsend officiating. Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Simcoe. For those wishing to donate in memory of Veronica, the family would ask you to consider the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
