Frank NIEUWLAND
Friday November 22, 2024

NIEUWLAND, Frank "Frans" - passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2024 in his 86th year, and into the arms of his waiting Lord and Saviour. Born in Bolsward, the Netherlands in 1939, he immigrated with his family to Canada at the age of 16, first living in Dauphin, Manitoba and then Galt, Ontario. It was there that he met the love of his life, Ingeborg (nee Hogerwaard), and where they were married in 1962. They moved to Norfolk County in 1969 where he resided until his passing. The proud father three children - Robert (Kelley), Paul (Pam), and Stephanie (David Wilms) and three grandchildren - Samantha, Jennifer (Jon McKye) and Joshua (Chelsea). Frank taught high school for 30 years, first at Delhi District Secondary School, then Valley Heights Secondary School, and finally at Simcoe Composite School, where he was the head of the Tech Department. He was loved by his students who would stop him on the street and talk to him frequently after he retired. He was progressive in his teaching and was one of the first to bring computers into his classroom, introducing his drafting students to AutoCAD years before other schools did. A man of faith that passed onto his children, he spent years in the service of the Lord, sitting on many boards and contributing to his church community in many ways. A sharp wit and a dry sense of humour were always at hand, and he liked to tease those he loved with that special smile and twinkle in his eye. He was a handyman extraordinaire and was able to build or fix almost anything. Passionate about model trains, he spent many hours drawing up and building elaborate train layouts. Much to the delight of his grandchildren, he created a large-scale layout that took up the entire basement. A visit to see Grandma and Grandpa would always include time spent “on the rails”. Frank will be remembered at a private family service on November 26th, with interment at Oakwood Cemetery in Simcoe. Many thanks to Dr. Bobby, Abby and Sandra from Ontario Heath atHome, the Sakura House hospice in Woodstock, Jason Smith and his wife Karen, and many others that cared for Dad, in particular during his last several months. Husband, father, grandfather, Child of God. Gone from our presence for now, he will not be forgotten and we rejoice knowing we will be reunited with him again one day.
