Simon VANDERKOOY

VANDERKOOY, Simon – with gratitude and humble acceptance of God’s Will, we announce the promotion to Glory of Simon, who was called home to be with his Lord at his home in St. Thomas on Thursday, November 14th, 2024 in his 87th year.  Simon departed peacefully, surrounded by loved ones and now is enjoying the presence of his Lord and family who have gone on before him.  Simon was born in the Netherlands and lived a life serving the Lord spreading love and kindness to those he met.  He was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished Opa and a faithful servant of God.  His love for the Lord was evident in everything he did, and he touched countless lives with his selfless love and unwavering faith.  Simon is the beloved husband of 62+ years to Ina Vanderkooy of St. Thomas.  Loving father of Jim Vanderkooy (Evelyn) of St. Thomas, Trudy McNeill (Scott) of Talbotville, Rick Vanderkooy (Shirley) of Tavistock and JD Vanderkooy of Kitchener.  Cherished grandfather & great grandfather of Daniel (Amanda), children Rowan & Mason; Allison Parker (Nigel); Josiah; Stephanie (Shamier), daughter Shae; Justin; Branden (Amanda), children Kayce & Hazel; the late Greg (Tatianna), her fiancée Israel; Jackson; Sophie; Seth; Curtis DeVries (Samantha), children Noah, Scarlet & Cedar; and Megan Epler (Peter), son Marek; Bailey Carrington; and Anayo Wachuku.  Simon will be lovingly remembered by many siblings, nieces, nephews & extended family.  Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that Simon in now in his true home.  Friends are invited to share their memories of Simon with his family at the JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. North Simcoe for visitation on Monday, November 18th, 2024 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Simon’s homegoing service will be held from Fellowship CRC, 641 Elm St., St. Thomas on Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David Kennedy officiating.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing to donate in memory of Simon are asked to consider Crossways to Life, continuing his legacy of faith and service.  Personal online condolences at www.smithfuneralchapel.com (519) 426-0199
