James MABEE
Thursday July 18, 2024

MABEE, James “Jim” - We are saddened to share the news of the passing of James (Jim) Mabee on Thursday, July 18th, 2024.  Jim was in his 73rd year.  Jim was previously deceased by his parents Annie Lorraine (nee Armstrong) Mabee and George Mabee.  Jim was supported by the Norfolk Association for Community Living for over 30 years.  Jim came to NACL in 1993, a man who had spent many years at various institutional locations, none of which felt like home for him. When Jim came to Simcoe, the community here became home.  Jim shared many years supported with room mates in our services, was an active member of the Black Cap Players Theatre Troupe, a valued member of Bethel Baptist Church and was a friend to many.  He was a man of faith, trusted solely on “the Big Boss upstairs, Jesus” and learned how to tell his support team what he dreamed of in order to live a good life.  In recent years, Jim moved to his own apartment in the community, accessed all of the places that were important to him whenever he chose, and shared many chats over hot and cold coffees. Jim enjoyed his most prized earthy possessions, watches, rings and most of all, his keys.  Keys let Jim have control of his home, his life and symbolized self-determination. He was in the driver’s seat of his journey.  Jim and his powerful story are amplified in this short video, in which Jim shares a snapshot of his journey.  He and his keys have inspired the shoelace campaign for the Norfolk Association for Community Living.  Please watch, share, and let yourself be moved by experiencing Jim’s journey here. https://youtu.be/NCtMp5KWio8?si=Uz2cfDHe4KFN2eNr A graveside funeral and burial will take place on Wednesday, September 4th, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Silver Hill Cemetery with snacks and a time for fellowship and sharing of memories to follow at “The School” in St. Williams.  The JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. North Simcoe in care of arrangements.  Personal online condolences at www.smithfuneralchapel.com
