Ann ROWLING
Saturday June 29, 2024

ROWLING, Elizabeth “Ann” - Our Mother, passed away peacefully with family at her side at the Norfolk General Hospital on Saturday, June 29th, 2024 in her 92nd year.   She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Douglas Edward “Ted” Rowling in 2002.  Married for 52 years, they were inseparable in life and are together once again.  Loving mother of Dennis Rowling of Simcoe, Denise Melville (Randy) of Simcoe and Donalda Berta of Tillsonburg.  Proud grandmother of Holli Melville of Brampton, Jesse Berta and Jamie Berta of Tillsonburg and great grandmother to Calleigh Legge of Brampton.  Predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Nellie Nall, her brother James Nall and her son in law, Joe Berta.  Mom is also survived by her very good friend and honorary daughter, Karen Hamilton of Brantford.  She leaves behind several cousins, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.  Mom will be missed by her fur-baby Bandit.  Mom was born in Chesterfield, England and grew up in the shadow of World War 2.  In 1947 she immigrated to Canada with her parents and brother and settled in Simcoe.  She met her future husband Ted and they were married in Trinity Anglican Church in 1950.  After their marriage they moved to Port Dover to raise their family, where they remained until 1972 before moving to Simcoe after purchasing Nicholl's Bakery.  Dad was the baker and Mom managed the store until they sold the business in 1994.  When they owned the bakery, Mom and Dad spent their off-time from April to October at Shore Acres Park in Port Dover where they made many long-time friends.   Over the ensuing years Mom would be frequently stopped in the street by former customers who would say such things as 'I remember you, you always gave my children a cookie, and even taught them to say please and thank you'.  She loved meeting people when out walking or shopping.  The Thursday Market was one of her favorite haunts and she quickly came to know many of the vendors there. Mom enjoyed playing euchre at both St. John's Church and the Port Dover Legion.  She was a long-time member of the Wednesday morning worship group at Trinity Anglican Church.  Ann Rowling was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, a friend and a business owner and she excelled in all of those roles.  She is loved and she will be missed.  Rest in Peace Mom.  The family would like to thank the 3B, and 4th floor nursing staff at NGH, along with Drs. Thorogood, Rollins and Jamal for their exceptional care while Mom was a patient.  Additionally, we thank Mom's wonderful PSW Alyshia for her professionalism and many kindnesses. Thank you also to Gayle Tomaselli from the local Alzheimer's Society for her support and guidance during difficult times.  Friends are invited to share their memories of Ann with her family at the JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. North Simcoe for visitation of Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024 from 12 noon – 1:00 p.m.  A funeral service will follow in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Paul Sherwood officiating.  Interment:  Oakwood Cemetery, Simcoe.  Those wishing to donate in memory of Ann are asked to consider the Alzheimer’s Society of Haldimand-Norfolk.  Personal online condolences at www.smithfuneralchapel.com (519) 426-0199
