Jim NORRIE
Wednesday May 01, 2024

NORRIE, James Alexander “Jim” – surrounded by his loving family, Jim passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 1st, 2024 at the age of 88.  A cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend; Jim was born on December 24th, 1935.  He grew up as a young lad in the village of Scotland, ON with his parents Leon & Leta Welsh.  This is where Jim at the young age of 18 found himself smitten with a beautiful brunette who he ended up marrying and building a life with.  Her name was Shirley Fink.  At the age of 21 he embarked on his new career as a police officer with the Ontario Provincial Police.  This took the newly married couple to Ottawa and then onto Porcupine, ON and eventually back to his hometown area of Simcoe.  This is where he retired from the force after 30 years and moved onto other adventures.  Along the way, 3 children were born.  Duncan Norrie of Simcoe;  Leeann Cronkwright (Travis Smith) of Walsh and Jason Norrie of Barrie.  Jim loved his children dearly and to them, he was a hero.  Fun loving, generous and compassionate with a contagious wit that always had them laughing.  A grandfather to the late Tyler (2014), Lynsey (James), River, Morgan & Jacob, he will always be remembered for his kind heart, humour and silly antics.  A brother to the late Reg (Una), his late sister-in-law Betty Norrie & Phyllis Charter (late Jim).  Jim will be remembered as a strong, loyal man and one who was always there to give a helping hand when needed.  Jim made many lifelong friends along his journey and to them, he will be remembered as a dependable, caring fellow who was usually the “jokester” behind the pranks and was always the life of the party.  To his beloved wife of 64 years Shirley, he will be remembered for his strength, commitment, perseverance and unwavering love and support throughout their long and loving lifetime together. Jim will be missed by all who knew him but will always be remembered with a smile.  A private family interment of ashes will be held at a later date.  The JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. North Simcoe in care of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing to donate in memory of Jim are asked to consider the Norfolk General Hospital Foundation.  Special thanks to Dr. Bobby and the homecare nurses Laura & Rachel for their wonderful care.  Personal online condolences at www.smithfuneralchapel.com (519) 426-0199  “Rest in peace Dad, your strength and courage will always be an inspiration to us.  You will never be forgotten.”
