Thursday October 05, 2023

SHEWBURG, Carol Anne (nee Hare) - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Carol Shewburg announce her passing on October 5th, 2023 in her 80th year.  Carol’s character was defined by her strength and resilience, her wit and charm, and above all else, her unwavering love and affection for her close friends and family.  Carol was the devoted mother of Scott Croucher (Janna) of Fort St. James, BC, and Kelly Cole (Scott) of Tillsonburg, and stepmother of Tara Rombout (Eric); the adoring “Gramma” of Oscar, Ezra and Theo Croucher, Lauren, Haleigh, Tori and Catie Cole, and Charlie Rombout.  She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Sharon Basler (George) of Listowel and her nieces, nephews and extended family, including the Roseharts and McElhones.  She is predeceased by her father Herbert Hare (1951) and mother Madeline Hare (1959).  Carol was proud to be a life-long resident of Simcoe, where she built her 30+ year career in real estate and met friends through Kinettes, curling and golfing. Even in the winters, she would fly south to spend the season in “Little Simcoe” (Lakeland, FL).  Friends are invited to share their memories of Carol with her family at the JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. North Simcoe for visitation on Tuesday, October 10th, 2023 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.  A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 211 Union St., Simcoe (corner of Queen St. & Union St.) on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Fr. Charles Akinloye as celebrant. Interment of ashes: St. Mary’s Cemetery, Simcoe.  Those wishing to donate in memory of Carol are asked to consider the Cancer Assistance Program (Juravinski Cancer Centre) or the Norfolk General Hospital Foundation.  Personal online condolences at www.smithfuneralchapel.com (519) 426-0199
