Michael MALONEY
Wednesday August 09, 2023

MALONEY, Michael Francis - of Simcoe, died peacefully on Wednesday August 9th, 2023, in his 87th year. Beloved husband of the late Joan Goddard (2020). Tap dancer, singer, musician, actor, illustrator and writer, Michael loved the arts.  In the 1960’s and 70’s, Michael was a freelance professional actor on stage and TV in Toronto and Windsor. As an instructor at Macomb County Community College, Warren, Michigan, Michael taught English literature and co-wrote an introductory to literature textbook for the College. Michael learned his writing skills as a reporter at the Windsor Daily Press. He completed his Graduate tutelage under Marshall McLuhan at the University of Toronto in literature.  Given Michael’s wide breadth of interest and his love for teaching he joined the newly formed faculty at Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology in 1967.  He taught acting, creative writing, the history of ideas, drama, theater and communications.  The size of Michael’s home library rivaled that of a high school.  He retired in 1987.  The same year Michael moved to Port Rowan to fulfill their dream to work as environmental advocates.  Although Michael and Joan were considerably aligned in their views, Michael did wear his sheep skin hat while driving their well decaled car supporting animal rights. Michael loved humor. Michael continued to sing with his wife at benefit concerts during their environmental advocacy years.  When they moved to Simcoe in 1992, he devoted his working, semi retired life to supporting Joan’s dreams to engage in creative writing, writing music and performance. He with Joan created The Pierswell Press.  He fulfilled the roles of editor and illustrator, publishing several of Joan’s literary and musical works.  During this time, he co-performed several of Joan’s own spiritual works some of which were broadcast on TV in Canada and the US.  Michael found his way back to the Catholic Church which provided considerable solace and became an active member of his parish.  He was a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus.  Joan was the love of his life and in death he looked forward to being with her once again. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 211 Union St. Simcoe on Saturday, August 12th at 11:00 a.m.  Interment: Port Dover Cemetery.  Arrangements entrusted to the JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. North Simcoe.  Personal online condolences at www.smithfuneralchapel.com (519) 426-0199
