Marie DAVIS
Sunday March 19, 2023

DAVIS, Inez "Marie" (nee Sowden) - passed away peacefully at Norview LTC, Simcoe, Ontario. March 19th, 2023.  Marie was born in Simcoe, Ontario to Perry and Bertha (nee Olds).  She spent her childhood on "Evergreen Hill Farm", Simcoe, with her brother Sam Sowden and her sister Margaret James (nee Sowden).  Her lifelong ambition was realized when she graduated as a Registered Nurse from Woodstock General Hospital.  Her career choice served her well and wherever her travels took her she was able to find employment. Her children believed that this allowed her to escape from the everyday family chaos to a much quieter scene in the emergency room of a local hospital. Marie's passion for farming followed her throughout her life.  Whenever possible, she planted a large vegetable garden and enjoyed freezing and canning the fruits of her labor.  Marie also enjoyed spending time along the beaches of the Great Lakes with her family.  Marie joined her husband John in the pursuit of his dream to own a Newspaper and Publishing Co. which took them to Didsbury, Alberta.  While in Alberta they frequently enjoyed the Rocky Mountains for long walks and camping.  Marie was an accomplished watercolour artist and a skilled quilter.  Any recipient of one of her paintings or quilts was a lucky person.  She was affectionately known to her grandchildren as "Dee" her homemade chocolate chip cookies, sticky buns and bread were a big hit. Dee will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Maeghan, Nathan, Nikolaus, Benjamin, Joshua, Jacob and her 4 great grandchildren.  Marie is survived by her children Mike (Cathy), Sam (Wanda), Christie (Marty) and Libby (Fred).  Marie was a proud member of the United Church of Canada and had a strong faith in God.  May God Bless Her and Keep Her.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Thank you to the "Wonderful and Loving" staff of Willow Walk for their excellent care.  If so desired and as your expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Woodhouse United Church.  The JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. North Simcoe in care of arrangements.  Personal online condolences at www.smithfuneralchapel.com  (519) 426-0199
