Muriel LA PLANTE

LA PLANTE, Muriel Irene (nee Maidment) – passed away at the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe on Friday, March 17th, 2023 in her 90th year.  Beloved wife of Douglas La Plante of Simcoe.  Loving mother of Barry La Plante (Pam) of Simcoe, the late Karen La Plante (1995), Brian La Plante (Donna) of Simcoe and Blair La Plante (Kim) of Simcoe /  Mexico.  Cherished grandmother & great grandmother of Ashley La Plante, her children Nyla & Hayden;  Breigh McCallum (Mike), children Chase, Rowyn & Emery;  Meghan Proctor (Jeremy), children Lenyn & Kove; and Sky Lesage (Chris), children Hunter, Hope & Holly.  Muriel will be lovingly remembered by her sister Judy Maidment (Allan Jones) of Cambridge and by many nieces, nephews & extended family.  Predeceased by her sister Rachael Casey and by brothers Gordon, Albert, Clifford, Doug & Bill Maidment.  Muriel was a very active volunteer at Norfolk General Hospital and the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home for over 40 years.  She was recognized for over 3000 hours of volunteer service as well as receiving the Outstanding Service Award, the Ontario Service Award and Provincial Life Membership as well as a member at the Simcoe Seniors Centre.  Muriel and Doug were long time members at the Simcoe Lawn Bowling Club.  In 2002 Muriel and her partner, Paul Davidson, won the Ontario Open Mixed Doubles Lawn Bowing Championship.  They went on to place 2nd in 2004 and 3rd in 2011.  Muriel and Paul have since been inducted as a team into the Norfolk Sports Hall of Recognition.  Muriel and Doug were active ‘Snow Birds’ during the winter months for over 25 years at Citrus Park in Bonita Springs, Florida where Muriel was a member of the synchronized swimming team and the Belles of Harmony Choir.  Muriel was a passionate knitter and a proud Canadian as an avid hockey fan at the local arenas cheering for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and serving on Hockey Moms, as well as cheering on both the Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs.  Go Leafs Go!  A reception will be held at the JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. North Simcoe on Tuesday, March 28th, 2023 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.  Those wishing to donate in memory of Muriel are asked to consider the Norfolk General Hospital Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.  Personal online condolences at www.smithfuneralchapel.com (519) 426-0199
