Death Notices

SMITH, Robert Allen - passed peacefully and with dignity, at Sakura House, Woodstock on Thursday February 2nd, 2023 in his 76th year.  Beloved son of the late Allen B. Smith (2011) & Leta L. (nee Jewell) Smith.  Originally from Vittoria, more recently Simcoe.  Dear brother to Wayne, David & Doug, all of Simcoe; Jim (Judy) of Toronto, and Donna Hutchinson (Jim) of Delhi.  Also survived by many extended family members and close friends (you know who you are).  During his last few days Robert talked about the old hunting camp, his shenanigans with laughter and all of the fond memories held close to his heart.  Robert was employed out of high school at the American Can company in Simcoe until the plant moved to Burlington.  From there he worked in other factories and ended his career driving truck.  Robert will be missed by many friends that he enjoyed hunting, fishing & trucking with.  He enjoyed driving across Canada coast to coast and to many parts of the USA.  Lots of adventures he was eager to share and laugh about.  Thank you to the dear friends and family that visited Rob, (AKA Bob, Bobby, Speed) while in the hospital, calling him, taking him some goodies, listening to him and all the kindness you gave to him.  I know he truly appricated it.  Sharon & Ian; you were Robert’s angels right from the beginning of his sickness to the very end.  Thank you to the Oncology Department at Brantford General Hospital, Dr. Lee, Katie and your entire team.  Your care, compassion and the respect you gave to Robert made his sickness bearable.  Thank you to the LHIN Norfolk and your team for the continued care and support prior to Robert’s admission to hospital.  Finally, a big heartfelt thank you to Janine and her team at the Sakura House and for the compassion, respect, kind words, hugs and for providing Robert the room to rest in peace, comfort and to pass with dignity.  Cremation has taken place.  The JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. North Simcoe in care of arrangements.  A private interment of ashes will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Walsingham on Saturday, July 8th, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.  Those wishing to donate in memory of Robert are asked to consider the Sakura House, Woodstock, the Canadian Cancer Society or the LHIN Norfolk.
