Jim YOUNG
Saturday October 08, 2022

YOUNG, James Benjamin (United Empire Loyalist) - passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 8th, 2022 at the age of 76.  Loving and most cherished husband of Maureen Young (nee Sandelli) of Simcoe.  Predeceased by his brother Tom.  Survived by his brothers David Young (Ruth), Rob Young and sister Christine Hartwick (Trevor).  Lovingly remembered by nieces, nephews & extended family.  Predeceased by his sister-in-law Deborah Young.  Jim was generous, curious, opinionated and with a quick wit.  He spent many enjoyable years as a minor hockey coach and then there were all of the nature hikes, birding, northern vacation car drives but his passion was fishing and more fishing near and far.  He and Maureen and friends spent as much time as possible on Long Point Bay on their boat "The Tempest".  He was a member and a volunteer auctioneer for over 30 years with Ducks Unlimited.  Jim opened Simcoe Equipment Centre in 1974 as a manager and then became owner operator until it was sold in 2017.  He had a staff that he treated with much respect and kindness.  He went above and beyond whenever his staff needed anything in their personal or working lives.  Underneath Jim's sometimes gruff exterior was a heart of gold and lots of laughter.  When Jim decided to sell, he made it clear that all staff would stay on and continue to work with the new owners.  I would like to thank the nurses, PSW’s and all Norview Lodge staff for taking such good care of Jim for the 38 days he lived there.  Special thanks to Dr. Medve at Norview and Dr. Steve Baker, neurologist at McMaster University Hospital who treated Jim's Myasthenia Gravis for many years.  Many thanks also for the support offered me by the Alzheimer’s Society of Haldimand-Norfolk.  I am comforted to know that Jim has found a new and profound fishing spot.  Friends are invited to share their memories of Jim with his family for a celebration of life at the JASON  SMITH  FUNERAL  CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. N. Simcoe for visitation on Tuesday, October 25th, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.  A memorial service will follow in the chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ron Mullin officiating.  Private family interment of ashes at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jim’s name to Autism Ontario or the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation.  Or if by chance you wish to remember me, do it with a kind deed or a word to someone who needs you.  Personal online condolences at www.smithfuneralchapel.com (519) 426-0199
