BRIGHTMAN, Viola “Jean” (nee Taylor) – passed away at the Niagara General Hospital on Friday, May 27th, 2022 after 97 years of living, Jean earned her Angle Wings.  A mother, nurse, traveller and poet she had colour in her life for all to see.  She is predeceased by her husband Walter (1980) and parents Jessica and Edward Taylor.  Survived by daughter Jennifer Gearing (Bill); sons Stephen (Carol), John (Ellen) and Tom (Dixie).  Grandchildren Rebecca Cox, Eric Gearing, Matthew Brightman, Greg Brightman, Nathan Brightman, Patrick Brightman and Andrew Brightman.  Jean is also survived by several great grandchildren.  Born in Marmora and raised in Madoc, Jean became a Registered Nurse at Peterborough Civic Hospital (1949).  Throughout her career she worked for the Victorian Order of Nurses, Joseph Brant Hospital, Norfolk General Hospital and at Waterford High School.  She loved bringing new babies into the world and also had compassion for those in ICU.  Jean was a member of First Baptist Church, Simcoe for more than 50 years.  Her faith helped her through many struggles, some of which are reflected in her poetry.  She published Poetic, The Dot of an Eye, Lynn Valley Poems and Morning Glories.  Writing was an outlet for good times and bad.  She was honoured by the International Society of Poets being awarded the International Poet of Merit.  Jean loved to travel and in her 60’s enjoyed many adventures with her good friend Mary Church.  Beginning with a special bowl inherited from her mother, Jean collected Carnival Glass, at one time 300 pieces shone and reflected the rainbow in her home.  She was a member of two clubs of like minded collectors.  A stroke robbed us of this loving lady.  May she rest in God’s loving arms.  Friends are invited to share their memories of Jean with her family at the JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. North Simcoe N3Y 3R3 on Wednesday, June 1st, 2022 for visitation from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.  A funeral service will follow in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Darrell Maguire officiating.  Interment:  Oakwood Cemetery, Simcoe.  Those wishing to donate in memory of Jean are asked to consider First Baptist Church or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.  Personal online condolences at www.smithfuneralchapel.com (519) 426-0199
