Joan SCHWEYER
Monday August 02, 2021

SCHWEYER, Joan Elizabeth (nee Lewis) 1945-2021  – surrounded by her loving family at her home on Monday, August 2nd, 2021 in her 77th year.  Beloved wife and best friend of  Larry Schweyer of Jarvis.  Loving mother of Karen Schweyer (Don Simpson) of Jarvis and Vicki Querney (Stuart) of Brantford, and beloved grandmother to Harrison.  Joan was known for her legendary laugh, artistic ability and famous banana bread. At 16, Joan met Larry, the love of her life by chance in Peacock Point when she was volunteered by her mother to teach swimming at Orange Lodge.  Joan and Larry were married 4 years later and enjoyed 56 wonderful years of marriage.   In true partnership, they supported each other through all of life’s ups and downs and established a life worth celebrating and remembering.   Joan held many roles in her life, however being a grandmother to Harrison was one of her greatest blessings.  Joan and Larry enjoyed many years of traveling across Canada, United States  and wintering in Ft. Myers Florida at Fountain View Park.  Joan really enjoyed swimming and bocce and became involved in various activities.  She was always up for a good game of cards or marbles with friends.  Joan enjoyed hosting many parties, fish fries, corn roasts, and years of camping with family at DOESEE Acres on the family farm.  Early in her career, Joan worked as a nurse at West Haldimand General Hospital and with Dr. Alexander’s private practice in Hagersville before finding her true calling in decorative painting and ceramics.  With the support of her family, Joan operated her own business; Joan’s Country Crafts on the family farm until her retirement. Her artistic ability and reputation earned Joan invitations to teach all across Canada, United States, Germany, Scotland and England.   Known for her keen attention to detail, she  continued to design, create and paint as a her hobby.  A special thank you  to Dr. Curnew, Dr. Drijber, the nurses at CBI Home Health Care, and Louanne Mathews who provided exceptional care and support to both her and her family in her final days.  Friends are invited to share their memories of Joan with her family at the JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. North Simcoe N3Y 3R3 for visitation on Sunday, August 8th, 2021 from 2-4 p.m.  A private family funeral will be held on Monday morning with Pastor John Makey officiating.  Private interment of ashes:  Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Fisherville at a later date.  Those who knew Joan, knew how generous she was and for those wishing to donate in her memory, please choose the charity of your choice.
