Friday April 02, 2021

THOMPSON, Norma Marie (nee Butcher) 1928-2021 - It is with sadness the family shares the peaceful passing of our dear mother, Norma Thompson at the Norview Lodge, Simcoe, Ontario on Friday, April 2nd, 2021 in her 94th year.  Beloved wife and best friend of 68 years to the late David R. Thompson (2015).  Dave and Norma were lifetime residents of Simcoe with deep pride in their ownership and operation of their fine men’s wear haberdashery, Perce Butcher’s Men’s Wear on Norfolk Street.  Norma leaves a legacy of love and compassion to her children Kathryn Harries, Tillsonburg;  Myrna and Bill Dow, Kitchener and Susan Roy (late Bob, 2004), Simcoe.  Cherished Nana to Jeff Harries (Moy), son Cole;  Cheryl Grove (Jason), daughters Felicity and Julia;  Laura Peace (Christopher), children William, Katie and Abby;  and Melissa White (Kerry), children Lucy and Leah.  Norma dedicated her life to her family.  She was a long time volunteer with the Norfolk General Hospital, an avid curler, golfer, bridge player and enjoyed many years of singing in the Anglican Church choir and winters in Destin, Florida.  Her happiest times were those spent with her family.  Due to covid restrictions, a private visitation and service will be held at the JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. North Simcoe.  Interment:  Oakwood Cemetery, Simcoe.  As expression of sympathy, those wishing to donate in memory of Norma are asked to consider the Norfolk General Hospital Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.  Donations may be mailed to the funeral home.  “Count your age by your friends, not years.  Count your life by smiles, not tears.” Go in peace Mom.  Our deepest gratitude to Dr. Thorogood for his exemplary care, Norfolk General Hospital, Cedar Crossing and our sincere thanks to the staff of Norview’s Maple Crescent for their kindness and compassion shown to our mother.  Personal online condolences at www.smithfuneralchapel.com (519) 426-0199
