David MCARTHUR

McARTHUR, David George (1938 - 2020) - passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 26th, 2020 in his 82nd year.  Dave was born and raised in Simcoe to his father, Dave McArthur and mother, Margaret Cooke, and is survived by his sister Diane Boyko (Ray) and brothers-in-law Bernie Rive, Frank Bahula (Laura), Ed Bahula (Diane), Ellen Shepherd (Larry), predeceased by his siblings, Mary Cubit (Joe), Greta Lewis (Charlie), Jean Holmes (Vic), Gladys Squires (Albert), Henry McArthur (Ruth), Bertha Rive and sister-in-law Mary Ann DeSerano (Angelo).  Also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members.  Dave is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Rose, and their children, Mike (Carol) McArthur, Sharon (Todd) Saunders, and Lisa (Tim) Dedrick, and grandchildren Jennifer (Jason) Schick, Melissa (John Paul) Ellis, Mark (Jess) McArthur, Heather (Jay) McArthur, Becky (Brett) McArthur, Alison (Alex) McArthur, Kyle (Taome) Dedrick, Ashley (Manish) Dedrick and great-grandchildren, Lane, Jackson and Olivia Schick and the family companion, Simba-Sam.  Dave and Margaret successfully owned and operated McArthur’s Source for Sports for many years in Simcoe. Dave was one of four founding members of Sports Distributors of Canada known as Source for Sports stores now across Canada. He was a member and officer of many community organizations including Simcoe & District Minor Hockey Association, Simcoe Lions Club, Simcoe Panorama, among many other community organizations and was particularly active with youth and family hockey trips throughout Europe.  He enjoyed fishing the various creeks in Norfolk County and engaging with the amateur ham radio operators with the Norfolk Amateur Radio Club and coffee time with other good friends.  Dave’s commitment to his family and community was closest to his heart.  He seldom missed activities of his grandchildren and frequently generously volunteered his time and efforts for community.  Cremation will be followed by a private family service and internment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Simcoe.  A celebration of life will be arranged for a later date.  Sharing of thoughts, prayers and memories of Dave’s life with the family and others is most welcomed and condolences may be sent to www.smithfuneralchapel.com  The family are particularly thankful to Drs.
