MAHER, Christopher Gerald – surrounded by his loving family at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto on Monday, February 19th, 2018 in his 65th year.  Cherished husband of Ann Maher of Simcoe.  Loving father & “granddad” of Jennifer Flight (Jason) of Delhi, their children Colson & Xavier;  and Caitlin Mottashed (Brad) of Simcoe, their children Everett & Cecilia.  Chris will be lovingly remembered by his siblings Peter Maher (Leslie) of Toronto and Eric Maher (Theresa) of Oakville.  Lovingly remembered by several nieces, nephews & extended family.  Predeceased by his parents, the late Dr. Gerald Brendan & Ruth Maher and by his brother Tim (2015).  Chris was a man of many passions, but nature always held a special place in his heart.  His career began with the Ministry of Natural Resources, and ended with the Nature Conservancy of Canada.  He was happiest when spending time outdoors with his family, whether it was camping, canoeing, hunting or fishing.  Chris was also a devoted volunteer with many organizations.  The Norfolk Land Stewardship Council, Long Point World Biosphere Reserve, and Simcoe Special Olympics have all benefited from Chris’ expertise over the years.  Friends are invited to share their memories of Chris with his family at the JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, 689 Norfolk St. North Simcoe for visitation on Saturday, February 24th, 2018 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.  A funeral service will follow visitation in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Deacon Dave Callaghan officiating.  Friends and family are invited to gather following the service for a luncheon at the Army & Navy Club, 53 Water Street, Simcoe.  Private family interment of ashes at a later date.  Those wishing to donate in memory of Chris are asked to consider the Long Point World Biosphere Reserve Foundation or the Special Olympics Simcoe.  Personal online condolences at www.smithfuneralchapel.com (519) 426-0199
