Alan ELIOT
Sunday May 07, 2017

ELIOT, Alan  (1941 - 2017) – surrounded by his loving family at the Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe on Sunday, May 7th, 2017 in his 77th year.  Cherished husband for 56 years of April Eliot (nee Karahan) of Simcoe.  Loving father & grandfather of Darren Eliot (Meredith) of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, children Avery, Mitch & Gillian;  Dana Eliot (Mike Chalmers) of Port Dover, children Mark & Maggie Allenby (Jesse Murphy);  Kristin Eliot (Michael Tschakovsky) of Kingston, children Sydney, Bram and Ally;  and Angela Eliot of Brantford, daughter Kaleigh, and her father Phil Ritchie of Caledonia.  Alan will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews and extended family.  Survived by his brother Eddie Eliot of Schumacher, and predeceased by parents Sidney and Adelta Eliot and by siblings David, Vince and Brenda, formerly of Timmins.  Alan had a very successful 42-year career at Kmart Corporation, beginning as a thirteen-year old stock boy at the Timmins' Kresge store. He rose through the management ranks, with store postings from Kirkland Lake to Windsor and several more in between, eventually retiring as a senior merchandising executive in the Kmart Corporate offices in 1996.  In retirement as entrepreneurs, Alan and April took great pride and delight in owning and operating the Rowan-Point Value store in Port Rowan.  Beyond being a self-made executive, Alan travelled the world for work and vacation, but valued most, his time with April and family. He was truly in his element outdoors with his dogs, and was happiest when he and April hosted family and friends at their beloved Long Point cottage.  Friends are invited to share their memories of Alan with his family at the JASON SMITH FUNERAL CHAPEL, located at 689 Norfolk St. North, Simcoe for visitation on Saturday, May 13th, 2017 from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.  A funeral service will follow in the chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Deacon Andy Alway officiating.  Interment:  St. Mary’s Cemetery, Simcoe.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing to donate in memory of Alan are asked to consider the Norfolk General Hospital Foundation.
