Death Notices

MELOCHE, Muriel Mae (nee Butcher) – surrounded by her loving family and with the compassionate care of the staff at Norfolk General Hospital, Simcoe, on Saturday, January 21st, 2017 in her 86th year.  Daughter of the late William & Ruby Butcher.  Joyful mother & grandmother of the late Cathy Main (1952-1954), Jerri Hooley (Vince) and Julie Swainston;  Kathryn Forester (Katheleen Ellis), sons Kaleb & Jeremy Brown;  Christal Marques, children Kyle & Rayna;  Connie Murch (October Browne), children Aron, Luke & Xiao Geng;  and Chris Main (Lynne Haslett), children Cody & Chelsea Connor.  Kind stepmom to Tish & Patrick Meloche.  Mother-in-law and dear friend of Bob Brown.  She will be also missed by her large family in Saskatchewan & Alberta.  With great spirit and dedication Muriel served in the Canadian Air Force as a radio tech during the Korean Conflict.  She was a long time employee of Canada Post finishing her career as a regional superintendent.  Following her retirement, Muriel taught ESL for 3 years in Yokohama, Japan.  She believed in the importance of giving back through volunteering with various community services including the Simcoe Information Centre, which began her many years of processing income tax returns for seniors in Haldimand-Norfolk.  Mom lived a healthy, active life enjoying sports, dancing and creating beautiful needlework.  Her gifts to all were her generosity, support, humor and positive outlook.  She was the loudest cheer in the crowd, and the brightest smile.  The family wish to thank the dedicated staff at Delrose Retirement Residence where Mom flourished.  Special thanks to Dr. T.
